Arweave - permanent immutable decentralized storage
Intro #
Hi crypto community. I am going to cover yet another exciting project.
Arweave is a decentralized data storage and sharing platform, comparable to Filecoin, MaidSafe, Storj, Sia and IPFS.
Strenghts #
Some of the cool features Arweave is offering are the following:
mainnet - just after ICO - right now coming up in 13 days. Compare that to Filecoin, which has been announced long time ago, but still has no product. Testnet has been in place for quite some time.
wide usecases - one of the most versatile projects around there. Decentralized legal docs storage, file sharing, medical records (which do not need their own chain like some projects are trying to do), elections can be done on Arweave, dApp building
relevant partnerships - Charite, a large European hospital, has already partnered with Arweave, signaling competence of the team
censorship resistant - tampering would always be recorded on Arweave chain
pay once system - unlike for some other platforms that require payment per time, because Arweave is optimized for speed and cost. The costs should be the distinguishing feature vs competing platforms such as Storj, Filecoin etc.
5k TPS - given the usecase, I believe this will be sufficient speed. Higher throughput would come at centralization and cost tradeofffs.
Team #
The two co-founders, CEO and CTO, Sam Williams and William Jones are PhD candidates with strong technical seem competent to lead such a platform. There are also advisors from startups and marketing.
Tech #
Wild Fire - reputation system, incentive mechanism so that miners share data with each other - miners not compete for reward, but cooperate
Proof of Access - Arweave consensus mechanism, miners compete replicating the most data - resources are used efficiently, unlike Bitcoin
Block Shadows - unlimited size blocks, all data is onchain! Rather than moving the entire block, rather only the necessary instructions (hashlist)
Conclusion #
Excited about this project. 9.3/10 :) #NotInvestmentAdvice
